Purpose

This project has been a delight to work on, Maybe because I really enjoy science fiction, and then especially Battlestar Galactica, so much that I do not care if the project takes up all my time on some occasions. Of course I have had drawbacks when I just did not want to go on working, but as a whole, I really enjoyed it.
I like translating, partly because I want to know if I can find an equivalent word in Swedish to match the English word so that the sentence still has the same "feeling" in the translation as in the original.
Now there is a task, because I got as far as to the first word, "battlestar", and I got stuck. How do you translate "battlestar" into something sensible in Swedish? I did not like the translation, that whoever put a Swedish headline on the movie had, "stridsplanet", because after all, it is a battlestar not a planet! After a while however, I had to settle for "stridsstjärna", it does not have the same "feeling" as a battlestar but I could not come up with anything better.
Another word I had trouble with was "launch". The word "launch" is pretty obvious in Swedish "uppskjutning" or "avfyrning", but both sound to "vertical" in Swedish, not "horizontal". So I came up with "sända ut", this does not sound as "powerful" as launch, but it is all right.

In my research on Swedish science fiction I came across things I did not know before, like the very productive Otto Witt, and the novel Oxygen och Aromasia. This novel made me so interested that I just had to read it, a very strange book. It takes place in the year 2378 in Stockholm. The ears of all people have been destroyed by Wagner's operas so now as music they have a "doftklaver", music for your nose, that is an interesting thought... the author's imagination is running wild at times but is very careful other times. This is 500 years in to the future from where it was written, and Stockholm is huge... ehum... it reaches almost all the way to Lidingö, hah! Stockholm is already much larger than that!

The science fiction survey I made was interesting, I got answers I did not at all expect. And I learnt new words, for example, the sort of survey I made is called a "poll".
I also had to perform detective work, because I forgot to mention in my first posts that not only should they write the title of the books but the authors too. I think I spent days trying to find out which person wrote which book, and I still did not come up with an author to every title frustrating, but I did have a great help from the Science Fiction Bokhandel-catalogue.
